David Burns and the Dog Poet Society

Who Am I  -- I'm a fourth generation Albertan and proud Canadian. I love my country and the people in it.

I've lived in Calgary most of my life with the exception of attending Universities in Camrose, Edmonton and Victoria BC, a year overseas hanging out in Europe and the Middle East and four years spent teaching English in Yokohama and Tokyo, Japan from 1991 to 1995.

I love to travel, play music, celebrate life over a beer with some good friends, be with my kids who are a wellspring of life and learning, eat big dinners with my family, play hockey in a peak state while popping in the occasional goal, do Kriya Yoga and reconnecting with my body.

I have been a writer, sales manager, teacher, councellor, husband, father, son and brother. I like to think I'm a good friend, that I have an open mind, a hunger for the "truth" of things and am compassionate and wise in my way.

I have played guitar since the age of 18 or so and have always  had the ability to craft a liitle song around various themes easily and effortlessly. My songs are often humourous, upbeat and dancable, no matter the content. I am more a lyracist than musician, but have grown confident enough to lead a band every now and then.

I like to do my own thing musically and pull people in as I need them -- I am blessed to be involved ina great music community in Calgary, like Mikey's Bar and Grill on 12th Avenue SW in Calgary. I play alot at open stages, enjoying the opporunity to  try things out with no pressure to a live hopefully large audience. And when things go well, nothing but nothing feels better.

Anyway, despite the fact that we are entering the Second Great Depression complete with a global facist police state, I felt compelled to finally become a serious singer/songwriter. Maybe not the best time to start up a career as a protest singer, especially with waterboarding being popular and all with those who would like to keep people like me quiet. Still, the universe rewards courage, and I believe the hour is pretty late, so what the hell.

My insights into life have often left me on the fringes of mainstream thought, confused and confounded that others don't see -- often at all -- what I am witnessing, but I understand that it is the truth that sets us free, not our beliefs, and that we must be continually testing our beliefs to verify whether they are true or not, especially in this post-911 world.

My songwriting exploded, literally, in 2006 where I wrote dozens of songs about the emerging New World Order, perhaps as an attempt feeling that while the logical mind can shut down a discussion about these topics, music was an excellent way to communicate these ideas in a way that could bypass the critical mind.

I am trying to play a big game here, and hoping that others with similar talents will also raise the bar.
